Description: SWARNIM VIJAY VARSH : INDO -PAK WAR 1971
The nation is celebrating 2021 as the Swarnim Vijay Varsh to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Indian victory over Pakistan in the Indo - Pak war 1971, which was the most imphatic victory as described by historians.
As part of the celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 16 Dec 2020, lit four ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaals’ from the eternal flame of the National War Memorial, New Delhi, marking the beginning of the 50th anniversary Swaranim Vijay Varsh. The victory mashaals (flaming torches) were carried to the four cardinal directions of the nation traversing the length and breadth of the country including the villages of Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees of the 1971 war.
The flame reached Shimla on 18th October and was hoisted at HQ ARTRAC. St. Edward’s School was privileged to host the programme organised by the NCC Group Shimla, to hoist the Swarnim Vijay Varsh Mashal. The school beamed with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour, in lieu of the event. Great caution was taken to accomplish precision in the preparations, for smooth conduct of the occasion. The school Principal, Reverend Father Anil Sequeira, and NCC Officer Lt. Satish Chander, were appreciated by one and all for efficiently managing the helm of affairs, of an event par excellence. The school NCC cadets presented a heart rendering performance.
The flame was received by Col. Suneet Shankta, Commanding Officer, 7 HP (l) Coy NCC Shimla, a proud Alumnus of the school, with full military honour. The event was attended by Officers of NCC Group Shimla, Director Higher Education, Principals of various institutions, Associate NCC officers(ANOs), and JCO/ORs and NCC Cdts of NCC Group Shimla.
